Nowadays overweight is a problem which affects many people. One of the most effective solutions against partial obesity, which, despite diets and exercise, still does not go away, is liposuction. With liposuction, or fat removal, it is easy to get rid of fats in specific areas of the body.
What is liposuction and who can do it?
Liposuction removes fat from specific areas of the body that have not responded to diet or exercise like thighs, abdomen and even knees. Liposuction is an effective method for eliminating partial obesity, it helps to achieve the desired weight and keep it longer. For liposuction the fat in the body is made liquid. The surgeon then makes small incissions of 1-2 mm into your skin and inserts aa cannula under your skin. The cannula is connected to a vacuum that suctions fat and fluids from your body.
Since liposuction requires surgery, it must be performed by a qualified physician. Contrary to popular belief, liposuction isn’t an overall weight-loss method. It is used to remove fat from areas of the body that haven't responded to diet and exercise. It is not to be performed on overweight persons as a weight-loss alternative. Excessively overweight or obese patients may first have to lose weight before they can be considered for this procedure.
Liposuction should not be performed on pregnant women, but is allowed for persons with heart disease and diabetes if the medical assessment shows positive results.
How does the healing process go after liposuction?
After the liposuction surgery you should wear a supportive elastic garment for 4 or 8 weeks, depending on the density of the destroyed fat tissue. You should also expect some swelling and bruising. The stitches are removed in 7 days after liposuction. You will need to wait for 3 weeks to resume your normal activities and 4 weeks to resume sport exercises.
After liposuction, regular exercise and a healthy diet should be continued. Receiving liposuction does not mean that you will not gain weight anymore. For this reason, regular exercise and a balanced nutrition should be turned into a lifestyle.
