Gynecomastia surgery

The excess breast tissue in men reminding women breast tissue is called gynecomastia. Being very disturbing for men it often leads them to seek surgery. Also, medicament treatment of gynecomastia can cause liver diseases, cirrhosis of the liver, excessive and sudden weight changes, some types of cancer.

What are Gynecomastia Types?

Gynecomastia may occur from puberty. Glandular, mixed, lipomatous (false) gynecomastia is available in three different types. Glandular gynecomastia increases feminine breast tissue, lipomatous gynecomastia increases fat tissue. Miskt gynecomastia in both fat and feminine breast tissue is seen together. This is the most common type of gynecomastia.

Iron gynecomastia increases female breast tissue, lipomatous gynecomastia increases fat tissue. Gynecomastia of the mixed type in both body fat and breast tissue is also the most common type.

How is a gynecomastia surgery done?

Gynecomastia is performed with full anesthesia. However, sedative anesthesia is also sufficient if the appearance of the breast should be eliminated only by liposuction. If a sedative anesthesia is performed, the patient is discharged from the hospital on the same day. After full anesthesia patient should stay in hospital for 1 night.

The gynecomastia is normally treated with liposuction. The excess fat and glandular tissue are removed from the chest by means of small cannulae. The recovery process takes approximately a month. The surgical method can be used in addition to the liposuction method. In this case fat tissue is removed through incisions made around the areola. However, surgery cannot remove adipose tissue as smoothly as liposuction.

How does the recovery process go after the gynecomastia operation? After the liposuction patients become tight bandages around the chest. These bandages remain on the patient for 2 days. The tightness of the bandage prevents bleeding and contusions. In most cases dissolvable stitches are used. This eliminates the need for sutures. The patients mostly do not suffer from pain or bleeding and can return to their daily routine shortly after the surgery. Approximately 1 month after the operation, the swelling disappears. Mammary gland tissue hardness disappears within 3 months. It is recommended to wear a compression garment within 1 month after the surgery. The improvement of shape and appearance is fully displayed after 6 months.
